Help for StereoCam on iPhone.
Which iPhones work
- An iPhone with an Ultra Wide camera: iPhone 11 or later (not iPhone SE, iPhone 16e, iPhone 17e or iPhone Air).
- iOS 16 or later. Import from Photos needs iOS 18, and Save as Spatial needs iOS 17.
- iPads, Macs and Apple Vision Pro can’t film in 3D. On a device that can’t film, the app shows “This device can’t film in 3D”.
Taking a good 3D shot
- Hold the phone sideways. That puts the two cameras side by side, like your eyes. Held upright, the screen shows “Rotate to begin”.
- Keep the level line green. Hold the phone so the line in the viewfinder turns green. On some iPhones that means tilting the phone a little.
- Subject 0.5 to 1 metre away, with something behind it and nothing closer. If something is too close, the app says “Too close for 3D: keep things an arm’s length away”.
How to see the 3D
- Cross-eye (how shots open; change it in Settings › Open New Shots As): hold the phone at arm’s length, head level. Hold up a finger halfway to the screen and look at its tip. Move the finger until the two dots become three. Keep your eyes there and look at the middle picture: give it a few seconds and it snaps sharp. Seeing four? Cross a little less. Blurry? Blink and relax.
- Wiggle: rocks between the two views. Anyone can see it, no tricks needed. Change the speed with the tortoise–hare slider at the bottom of the viewer, or in Settings › Viewing.
- Parallel: the two halves swapped, for people who relax their eyes and look “through” the screen instead of crossing them.
- Red-cyan: for red-cyan 3D glasses.
- Single: a flat picture.
These views are in the StereoCam gallery, which comes with StereoCam Pro. Without Pro, look at the side-by-side copies in Photos with the cross-eye steps above. The ? button in the viewer, and Settings › How to See 3D, show the guide again.
The 3D looks too strong or hurts
Keep things at least an arm’s length away, with background behind them. In Cross-eye, Parallel and Red-cyan, the depth slider at the bottom (Closer … Farther, or Near … Far on smaller iPhones) moves the scene back or forward. Once you move it, Save Copy keeps the change as a new copy in the gallery and in Photos. If your eyes get tired, look away for a moment.
Video size and frame rate
In Video mode, the size and frame rate button shows the video size and the frame rate the camera is really filming at; tap it to change them. Auto films 60 fps in good light and 24 fps when it gets dark, so the picture stays clean instead of grainy.
Sharing
Tap Share in the viewer (StereoCam Pro): Wiggle video, 3D challenge (9:16) or Side-by-side. More has Parallel, Red-cyan (3D glasses), Wiggle GIF, Original File and, on iOS 17 or later, Save as Spatial, which puts a spatial copy in Photos that plays in 3D on Apple Vision Pro.
StereoCam Pro
- Your first few photos or videos are free. They’re saved to your Photos library as side-by-side 3D pictures (allow StereoCam to add photos).
- StereoCam Pro adds unlimited photos and videos plus the StereoCam gallery, where you watch wiggles, switch views, adjust the depth and share.
- The StereoCam Pro screen appears once the free ones are used, or the first time you open the gallery. It can’t be closed, so from then on StereoCam needs Pro. Settings shows how many free shots are left.
- Monthly, Yearly or Lifetime (paid once). Prices vary by country, and the App Store shows yours before you buy.
- Reinstalling the app doesn’t reset the free shots. StereoCam Pro isn’t shared through Family Sharing; each Apple Account buys its own.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price until you cancel, at least 24 hours before the end of the period.
Restore a purchase
Bought StereoCam Pro before, or on another iPhone? Tap Restore Purchases on the StereoCam Pro screen or in StereoCam’s Settings. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. Restoring costs nothing.
Manage or cancel a subscription
In StereoCam: Settings › Manage Subscription (shown while you’re subscribed). Or on your iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › StereoCam Pro. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge; Pro stays on until the end of the period you paid for. Lifetime is a one-time purchase, so there’s nothing to cancel. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Deleting photos and videos
In the gallery, open a shot and tap the trash, or tap Select, pick several and tap the trash. That deletes them from StereoCam. Copies already saved to Photos stay there; delete those in the Photos app. The gallery is part of StereoCam Pro; without Pro, deleting the app removes everything kept in it.
Something isn’t working
- “Camera access is off”: tap Open Settings and turn on Camera.
- No sound in videos: turn on StereoCam in Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
- Shots don’t appear in Photos: allow StereoCam to add photos in Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos. Shots taken before that stay in the app only. With StereoCam Pro, open one in the gallery and choose Share › More › Original File › Save Image (or Save Video).
